Call Me Stupid, But...

Every few years a fresh new voice explains why the Bible is for stupid people. The latest to make me smile about this is Neil Degrasse Tyson, the new Carl Sagan. He lists the Bible as the number one book people should read, "To learn that it's easier to be told by others what to think and believe than it is to think for yourself."

He joins a long list. Voltaire said, "Another century and there will not be a Bible on earth." He died in 1778. The great agnostic Robert Ingersoll said, "In 25 years, the Bible will be a forgotten book." He died in 1899.

According to Guiness World Records, 5 billion copies of the Bible have been printed. There is not even a close second. Even Mao's "mandatory" Little Red Book topped out at 800 million.

People come. People go. The earth remains.

Ideas come. Ideas go. The Bible remains.

Call me stupid, but I believe. And I think for better reasons than he who does not believe.

Until every church disciples every man...
