The Voices In Our Heads

23 Jan 2024

For every voice that was in my head 20 years ago, today there are 10x more.

Social media.
Email.
24 hour news.
All day talk shows.

Some of these voices are wearing me down. These people have always been around, but I liked it better when I couldn’t hear them. Too much access.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll feel better. But today I’m tired. Tired of…

-People who complain about all the things they don’t like – Complainers.
-People who run down other people – Criticizers.
-People who see the worst in every situation – Pessimists.
-People who tell me what I “need” to do (or not do) – Controllers.
-People who, having the vaguest possible understanding of my situation, know exactly how to fix it – Meddlers.
-People who know what I ought to think, say, and do (or shouldn’t) – Moralizers.

When Frodo asked in a Lord of the Rings movie, “What are we holding onto, Sam?”

Sam replied, “That there is some good in this world, and it’s worth fighting for.”

I need more Sam’s in my head…

-More people who see the good in life and say so – Optimists.
-More people who see the good in other people and say so – Encouragers.

Don’t we all?
