Do you wrestle with the feeling that to be more spiritual or more acceptable to God that you need to work harder for God? If so, you’re not alone. The “more is better” and “if you really love God, you need to prove it” mentality plays well with most men. Because we’re raised to believe our identity and worth will be measured by how well we perform, how much we produce, and how successful we become. It’s all very exhausting, isn’t it? But the wisdom of this age is not the wisdom of God. It’s not, “Well done, good and ‘successful’ servant.” It’s, “Well done, good and faithful servant…. Come and share your master’s happiness!” (Matthew 25:21). As you can see, God calls us to be faithful, not successful. In fact, in the wisdom of God, success is being faithful.
