Dave Hilty and his wife, Beth, decided to sell their Pittsburgh home. They wanted to put themselves in the best financial position to pursue Dave’s calling. Dave is the Man in the Mirror Area Director for North Pittsburgh.
Moving seemed like a pretty good decision. After all, most homes that went on the market in their neighborhood were selling in two weeks or less. But four months and fifty prospects later–nothing! Their real estate agent was baffled.
Dave recalled, “Meanwhile, we had been praying for God to show us exactly where He wanted us to live. But even as I prayed, I wasn’t really sure how we would know with certainty.
“Then one Saturday morning,” Dave continued, “we had three showings scheduled. So Beth and I decided to drive around the area where we wanted to move. We noticed a new house being built that hadn’t sold and made arrangements to take a look. The house was unfinished. Drywall inside. Nothing on the outside. No landscaping. No anything! But as we walked through the house and looked over the lot, Beth fell in love with it.”
After the tour, the agent proposed Dave and Beth sign a contract with fifteen days to back out if their house didn’t sell. They decided to go for it–which was unusual, since that was not even close to Beth’s norm for making big decisions like that.
As they scrawled their signatures on the contract, Dave prayed, “God, if this is where You want us, You have fifteen days to sell Your house. If it doesn’t sell, we back out, and we keep waiting.”
Over the next two days, and after four months and fifty prospects with no action, they received four contracts to buy their home.
Notice how Dave prayed. “God if this is where You want us, You have fifteen days to sell Your house.” God just loves it when we pray in such a way that only He can get the glory when our prayers are answered.
