Why Christian Values Are Not Enough

23 Jan 2024

When we were still dating, I convinced Patsy, now my wife, that I was a Christian. Shortly after our wedding, we realized we had an ambiguity of terms. I thought Christianity meant being committed to a set of Christian values, but she was committed to a Person—to Jesus Christ. Patsy was the kind of person I wanted to be, and it came out of the overflow of her relationship with Christ. I tried my best to be like her in my own strength but I couldn’t pull it off. I knew she had what I was missing and, once I understood the difference, I surrendered my life to Jesus. If you are a very moral person, you can live like a Christian without Christ – but it is not enough. Are you committed to a set of Christian values, or have you surrendered to Christ?
