When “I’ll Have Another” won the Kentucky Derby, the owner, a former philosophy professor at UCLA, was asked how the win related to his former profession as a philosophy professor.

He quoted the great philosopher, Ludwig Wittgenstein, who said, “Once all philosophical problems are solved, nothing of real importance will have been accomplished,” then added, “so we went into horse racing.”

The more we read about how philosophers struggle to solve the great philosophical questions, the more appreciation we can have for the beauty, simplicity, coherence, and clarity of the Bible.

For example, Romans 1:20 says, “Since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made.”

After years of examining the highest thoughts of the greatest human thinkers, any C student will plainly see that the Bible is vastly superior in quality and content. So if you know someone looking to philosophy for answers, let them know you’re available to talk when they get stuck like the owner of I’ll Have Another. The Bible has answers for the questions raised by that Wittgenstein moment of disappointment.
