Salvation Is Not Based On Understanding

23 Jan 2024

If someone is waiting until they understand God to put their faith in Jesus, they will be waiting for a long, long time. Some of God’s attributes are communicable – like his love, mercy, and truth. But his incommunicable attributes are incomprehensible – such as infinite, eternal, omnipotent, and self-existent. In fact, we can exhaust anyone’s knowledge of God with a single question: “Where did God come from?”

His mysteries are vast. How much can the ant understand about the human? What we do know about God is infinitesimally small compared to what we don’t know.

Our understanding will always be partial and limited. But our limited understanding is no reason for despair. It’s not, “Understand the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved,” but “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.” Our salvation is not based on understanding. It’s based on faith. Jesus did not say, “Come once you become an expert,” but “Come as a child.”

Because he loves us so much, he makes it so easy. Just say and mean these 10 words: “I confess my sins and put my faith in Jesus.” So simple even a child can do it!
