How To Succeed When The Odds Are Against You

23 Jan 2024

When Gideon went out to meet the vast Midianite army with a mere three hundred men, one thing was clear. He had no illusion of success apart from a miraculous victory from God.
So how did he succeed? Gideon so closely identified what he was doing with God that before his enemies could prevail against him, they would first have to prevail against God!

Listen to what he said: “Get up! For the LORD has given you victory over the Midianite hordes!…
As soon as I and those with me blow the ram’s horns, blow your horns, too, all around the entire camp, and shout, ‘For the LORD and for Gideon!’” (Judges 7:15, 18, NLT).

And what was the result? “Each man stood at his position around the camp and watched as all the Midianites rushed around in a panic, shouting as they ran to escape” (verse 21, NLT). God threw them into such confusion that they started killing each other while Gideon stood watching.

The message is clear. If you’re feeling the hot breath of imminent defeat, you still have a card to play. Imitate Gideon. Even though he faced such overwhelming odds, he won by declaring that the battle was the Lord’s. Once you know what God wants you to do, so closely identify everything you’re doing with the Lord that before others can prevail against you, they must first prevail against God.

Until every church disciples every man…
