This is the calling God gave to me in 1987: “I want you to take my message of love to a broken generation.” 

I’ve always had a clear picture of what “a broken generation” looks like. (The subtitle to The Man in the Mirror is “Solving the 24 Problems Men Face”). However, for a decade I was baffled about how to communicate God’s message of love. Then one day the scales fell from my eyes and I realized: Jesus “is” God’s message of love. 

Of course, I already knew this, but God confounded me so that I couldn’t connect the dots. Perhaps He did it so the emotional impact would be as great as it was–which was overwhelming. 

God doesn’t hate anyone. He takes no delight in the death of the wicked. He does not willingly bring affliction. God our Savior wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:3-4). He does not want anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). 

• It’s not because “God hated the world so he sent his one and only son…” 
• It’s not because “God liked the world so he sent his one and only son…”
• It’s because “God so loved the world that he sent his one and only son…”

He made us (Psalm 139). He loves us. “When Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd” (Matthew 9:36).

He loves you. Jesus said, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you” (John 15:9). “I have loved you with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3). That’s His message.

For all who are broken, Jesus Christ is God’s message of love.
