My wife and I are enjoying one of life’s great pleasures. Four baby Mockingbirds have hatched from Faberge-like sky blue, brown-speckled eggs in the hedge just outside our bedroom window.
It has been both awe-inspiring and precious to consider how God gave them life, and now nurtures it by giving the mommy and daddy an instinct (or is it love?) to feed their babies those plump little worms.
Why? For His own pleasure, of course. But also for ours. And so that we can have faith that He will take care of us too. Jesus put it like this: “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:26).
He also said, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:29-31).
Wow, do these four little birds make Scripture come alive! Such wonder compels a response. I just can’t help it. My heart is singing, “Glory to God!
Until every church disciples every man…
