To the analytical mind, understanding is easier than believing. To the aesthetic mind, believing is easier than understanding.

As an aesthetic, I rejoice that I’m not encumbered by having to have all the details fit just right. Aesthetics are able to live with ambiguity.

So if you want to witness to me about God, you can appeal to (even feature) the beauty and mysteries of God.

But you can easily see why the opposite approach is needed when witnessing to someone with an analytical mind. An analyst is looking for facts, evidence, and proof.

Of course, by degrees, aesthetics want to understand and analysts appreciate mystery. But it’s extremely worthwhile when witnessing – even crucial – to understand whether you are appealing to the mind of an analyst or an aesthetic.

A good fisherman knows which bait to use for different kinds of fish.
