You have read that Job was a man of complete integrity, the most influential man in all the East, and “very wealthy.”
I started wondering, “Just how wealthy was he?” So I decided to calculate the value of his assets listed in the Bible. Of course, he probably had real estate, businesses, and personal assets, but here’s the value of what’s listed at current market values:
7000 sheep at $300 each for a total of $2,100,000.
3000 camels at $260 each for a total of $780,000.
500 teams of oxen at $3000 per team for a total of $1,500,000.
500 donkeys at $1000 each for a total of $500,000.
The total? $4,880,000.
Let’s round that to $5 million of business assets.
I’m done, but it would be interesting if someone wanted to take the ball and run with it to calculate how much real estate would be required to support that much livestock, and the current value of the acreage to do it 🙂
