If you had never seen a dog before and someone was describing dogs to you and, if they described two kinds of dogs – “wild” dogs and “house” dogs – you could not be faulted for thinking it would be far better to have the freedom of a wild dog.

But in the real world, it turns out that house dogs are much better off. In the real world, without the protection of a kind and loving master, wild dogs are invariably more scrawny, even sadder, than house dogs.

We may think we’d be much
better off if we could run wild, but that’s a little too much freedom. Far better to live in the house under the protection of a kind and loving Master who “is working out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.”
