What’s the Mission?

Today’s politics put the ugly parts of human nature on public display.

We see people so angry they want to burn down anyone who disagrees with them. But that’s not how it is in the kingdom of Christ.

Of course, just because someone disagrees with us doesn’t mean they’re not walking with the Lord. But it happens often enough that it’s worth a mention.

What should be our overarching attitude and approach toward someone – anyone – who isn’t walking with the Lord?

As David Delk, our President and CEO says, “A fireman doesn’t stand at the door of a burning building waiting for people to come out. He goes in to rescue them from the fire.”

Here’s how the Bible puts it…

“And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives” (Jude 1:22-25).

So how do we rescue others, snatching them from the flames? We run toward them while everybody else is running away. We show them mercy while others condemn.

That’s the mission. That’s how we win. Timeless advice, but especially right for the times in which we live.
