Money is important. When the 10th of the month rolls around, your landlord isn’t looking for Jesus. He wants cash.

But the urgency of money makes it seem too much like a god.

I’m reminded today of the terrible danger of thinking money will solve my problems:

“But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.” (1 Timothy 6:9-10)

God’s principles, like this one, are kind of like “spiritual physics.” In physics, two substances cannot occupy the same space at the same time. That’s why fender benders leave dents.

The spiritual physics of money tells us that we cannot serve both God and money. Either we will love the one and hate the other, or else the other way around. (Matthew 6:24).

The word “cannot” is operative. We can’t “wish” his principles away. It’s physics.

Money is a wonderful servant, but makes a ruthless master.
