The two institutions ordained to raise up strong, capable men are the family and the church (we, the body of Christ).
Notice that both are communities.
However, most families don’t feel equipped to raise sons to become godly young men. Just look at the mass exodus from the church underway right now by young people in general, and young men in particular.
Many families find themselves in survival mode. That’s why most families, at some point, turn to churches for expert help.
But while churches know that discipling men to lead their families as husbands, fathers, and citizens is a high priority, most simply don’t have the “know how” to provide the training, tools, and “life on life” relationships men need.
We have a “men problem” largely because we have a “church problem.”
But instead of trying to establish blame, the kingdom of God would be better served by focusing on the solution.
The apostle Paul cites the “official” solution God has given us this way…
“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others” (2 Timothy 2:2).
“Disciples making disciples – starting at home” is the official way back.
Until we can disciple men as effectively as the Army trains soldiers for combat, can you picture any other way of every solving the “men problem?”
It’s hard to imagine, wouldn’t you agree?
